Posted on Wed, Feb. 23, 2005 Actor Matthew McConaughey, on a promotional tour for his new movie, showed up at Robins Air Force Base on Wednesday and said it was "an honor to be here." "I can only imagine what you and those fighting on the lines over there are doing every day. We're all fortunate to live in the U.S. of A," said McConaughey, who arrived in a souped-up Ford F-250 pickup pulling an Airstream travel trailer. In "Sahara," which opens April 8, the 35-year-old actor plays an explorer who embarks on a treasure hunt through West Africa. Co-stars are Steve Zahn and Penelope Cruz. "We started off in Texas, then I was the grand marshal in Daytona, went to Orlando and had batting practice with the Atlanta Braves," McConaughey told a group of airmen. "Now I'm here, and this is very cool."
McConaughey talked to airmen about his new
movie, signed autographs, posed for pictures and even gave away his
shirt to an officer who asked for it.
