These reviews are from you, the fans that have taken the time to send me
an e-mail about their opinion of the film. Good or bad, I will take
them. If you would like to post a review than feel free to send my
an
e-mail.
What a way to start off the new year. Thanks goes to Mike Heuler.

At the time of its release, 'Raise The Titanic'
actually got my interest with the topic of whether the ship could be
raised from the bottom. I remember reading several articles on this
theory and the end result was yes it could possibly be raised with current
technology. Not until we found out years later that the great liner
broke in two and obviously killed that notion and the credibility of the
movie. But I still found the center plot very exciting. I thought
the movie was decent enough to give it a 3 star (out of five) rating.
The ending turned slightly patriotic but now after 911 it seemed somewhat
appropriate. The movie plainly grabbed your imagination as to
raising such a huge vessel-especially one so historically famous.
For the first time in quite awhile, I finally received my second review of
the film. Below, this review is excerpted from his email that he had
sent to me about a few weeks ago. (Added 12-15-2002)

Hi,
My name is Lee and I have been a fan of 'Raise
The Titanic', the book, the film, and the fabulous score by John Barry
for about three years. The excellent novel by Cussler is one of my all
time favorite books, and the movie despite being flawed, has it's
moments. I noticed that on your fab site there seems to be a lot of
negativity regarding the movie, and I felt it needed a bit of
defending. don't get me wrong, it certainly isn't a masterpiece on the
level of the novel, but as a fan of anything to do with Titanic, I
find the movie offers an acceptable depiction of what I have long
considered a dream of mine, that is to see the great ship rising from
her watery grave. Obviously, we all know now that due to the
structural damage that she now bears, the prospect of bringing her up
is both far fetched and impossible, which is one of the reasons why
the movie, despite all it's inaccuracies, in terms of both factual
errors and it's lack of success at translating 100% successfully
Cussler's vision, still holds a special place in my heart. The
performances are solid, even if the script isn't and John Barry's epic
score provides the necessary sweep, and scope that a film of this
subject needs. And although the film runs a little longer than many
people's patience level will allow, it rewards us in it's later scenes
of the mighty Titanic finally seeing daylight once again. The special
effects are very impressive considering when it was made, and one can
only hope that Cussler's novel is once again turned into a cinematic
event worthy of it's title.
I got an e-mail from a woman who has asked to remain anonymous.
She is my first movie reviewer. I excerpted part of her e-mail that
contained the review.
- I loved the book. You cannot take a
wonderful story and re-write it into much more than that. In this case
they made a hash of it. Names have been changed, the plot line severely
altered, and there was little if any research done on Titanic itself.
The model looks more like the Aquitania than Titanic! I give it a
whopping 1.5 stars. If you want to watch a good action-packed story you
could do worse... You could do much better too.
