In the novel, Dr. Cussler describes Munk as a quiet and droopy-eyed wit who clearly wishes he were anywhere but on the Sappho I and than later is killed while on the Sappho II by a Russian agent. In the film, most of his scenes are found inside the Deep Quest. Again, another great character actor that wasn't given any freedom to develop his character in the film.
