Below is a brief description entirely excerpted from the press kit that was released to the press before the film initial release.

JOHN BARRY, Oscar-winning composer-conductor, has written the original music for an impressive number of important motion pictures.  Now, he has contributed another significant score to intensify the dramatic tension and sweeping action of "Raise The Titanic!"

Barry's prodigious musical output has earned the admiration and respect of his music colleagues in Hollywood and they have honored him with three Academy Awards--for his original score and song from "Born Free" in 1966, and original score for "The Lion In Winter" in 1968--and another Oscar nomination in 1971 for scoring "Mary, Queen of Scots."  He also received three Emmy Award nominations for his work on the television specials, "Elizabeth Taylor In London," Sophia Loren "In Rome," and "Eleanor And Franklin."

Among the major films for which Barry has composed memorable music are the James Bond Features, "Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," "Goldfinger," "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," "Thunderball," "Diamonds Are Forever," "You Only Live Twice," and "Man With The Golden Gun."

He also distinguished himself by his outstanding music for such diverse films as "The L-Shaped Room," "The Wrong Box," "The Whisperers," "The Ipcress File," "Petulia," "Midnight Cowboy," "Robin and Marian," "King Kong", "The Deep," and another Bond film, "Moonraker."

Most recently, he composed the music for "The Game Of Death," Roger Vadim's "Night Games," and the Disney science-fiction film, "The Black Hole."  He next will compose the original music for "The Legend Of The Lone Ranger," a Lord Grade and Jack Wrather Presentation of a Martin Starger Production which also will be released in the U.S. and Canada by AFD (Associated Film Distribution).

A native of Britain and a former rock musician, Barry began his career in television and in recording as an artist and record producer for CBS records.  Later, he became Musical Director of EMI, concurrent with his successes as a composer for motion pictures.
