So far, no news for a Regional 1 release here in the U.S. and
Canada. But things might change with the release of Sahara coming to
the big screen this year. If it is released in a Regional 1
format, they should add some features that need to be implemented to have
a decent DVD and for it to be worth the purchase.
Anamorphic format-The film should be
transferred into a digital format to give us, the viewers, a crisper and
more sharper image on screen.
Digitally Re-mastered-The same goes with
sound. It needs to be re-mastered in Dolby, THX and 5.1. All
previous releases were in mono.
Widescreen-Bring it back to it's
original format as it was on the big screen.
Ok, now that we have laid down the basics for
a good looking & sounding DVD, what would make it even better but some
icing on the cake...EXTRAS!!! Let's go
all out and make this a 2-Disk Special Collectors/Directors Edition. And here is what I think
should be added to make the DVD more enjoyable and worth the purchase.
Alternate, Deleted & Extended Scenes-This
has to be added. One of the most widely used extras found on
most Special Collection DVD releases.
Bloopers-If they're still around,
this would be nice to see.
Documentary-So far the only
documentary that was released prior to the release of the film was
"The Late Great Adventure". They could also make a one
specifically for this DVD release and interview members of the cast &
crew let them tell us their experiences with the making of the movie
and give us some insight on what it was like to be working on what was
considered at that time a major block-buster motion picture and then
learn what they have to say about their reaction when the film flopped
at the box-office.
Movie Trailer(s), Teaser(s) & TV Spots-And I'm
not just talking about one trailer. I'm talking about every single
trailer, teaser and TV spot from every single country!
Commentaries-Whoever the company is
that releases it on DVD and wants spend some extra dollars, bring in
Director Jerry Jameson and whoever is still alive from the production
team to bring out a really neat commentary with behind the scenes
trivia and comments about their relationship with the actors on the
film. If they really want to roll out the red carpet, they
should bring in some or all of the actors (David Selby, Anne Archer,
Bo Brundin, Michael Pataki, M. Emmett Walsh, Paul Carr, Elya Baskin &
Stewart Moss. ) that played in the film to narrate a second commentary
to share their point of view and their relationships with the late
actors, Jason Robards, Richard Jordan, Alec Guinness, Norman Bartold &
Charles Macaulay. Heck let's place a third commentary track and
have the author himself, Dr. Clive Cussler explain to everyone on why
this film was such a horrible film! Maybe, if the film ever gets
remade, he could suggest what he would like to see in the new version
of the film. (I'll have more about that myself, in a new page
that I'm still currently working on. Stay Tuned!)
Cast & Crew Bios-Take it
straight
from the original press kit.
Storyboards-Most production crews
keep copies of the storyboards that were used in the film for
memorabilia.
Behind-the-Scenes Photos-Photos of
the model during it's original construction and during filming.
Any photos from the Athinai. Some actors and production crews
takes pictures of their work in progress just like anyone else would
if it was something that was going to a big event. Remember,
this film was pegged as a film that was going to be the adventure of a
lifetime and a box-office smash.
Poster Gallery-Might as well show all
the different posters from across the world. I already have a
variety on the
Poster Page.
Easter Eggs-Let's give the DVD
enthusiasts something to sink their teeth into and place a few hidden
extras into the disk(s).
DVD-ROM-This might be going a bit
overboard, but they could design a shockwave-type game to locate &
raise the Titanic. And than after it is raised, fight through
the
devastating Hurricane Amanda and also some nasty Russians who are trying to hijack
the Titanic for themselves and get to your main goal--New York harbor.
Soundtrack-Add
the Nick Raine & City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra
soundtrack as an extra bonus.
Scripts-Dozens of rewrites were done
before the final one was approved. It would be nice to see all
the previous scripts as well as the finalized one that was used for
filming.
Comic Strip-Heck, might as well
throw this in too.
*UPDATE 7-9-2003*
John just sent me the
DVD cover that Carlton will use for their Regional 2 DVD Release on
August 11, 2003. *NOTE* See if you can notice any obvious mistakes
on the cover that both John and I noticed. Hopefully they'll have
this corrected before it's release. John was also able to get some
of the specs. It will be in 16:9 (Widescreen) format. The only
extra will be the movie trailer.
*UPDATE 6-5-2003*
I just got some updated information from John about what will be on the
DVD. "The DVD is being released by CARLTON who own
the UK rights to the movie. I spoke with CARLTON 30 mins ago. The date
will be 11th August and so far the DVD will feature the trailer. They have
asked me to contact them in the 1st week of July and they will send me a
copy of the DVD cover for the site and any for NEW info on the release.
The woman I spoke with only knows of the trailer (so far) but it is still
being put together. They say that they hope to have some more features on
the disc."
