During the actual filming there were scenes that never made it in the final cut.  Allot of these scenes reflects back to references made from the actual novel:  Scenes that would have made the movie more personal to the fans who had enjoyed reading the novel.  It also would have made the film more real.  Some of these scenes were either cut during editing or were never filmed due to the already high budget.
  • April 14-15, 1912-In this earlier scene, we are introduced to Arthur Brewster.  After the Titanic is struck by the iceberg, we see him forcing a crewman at gunpoint to the cargo hold.  This scene was never filmed because of budget constraints.  But the sinking sequences were later used in an episode of Voyagers! called "Voyagers Of The Titanic".
  • Novaya Zemlya-This scene was a straight shoot compared to the film where it was cut into two different scenes.
  • Russian Embassy-This scene should have been the first scene that introduces the Russians but it was either never filmed or was cut in the editing room.
  • Andrews Air Force Base-This was originally the scene where Sandecker and Seagram meets Pitt with the injured Sid Koplin.
  • Inside Sandecker's Georgetown Home-Sandecker and Pitt are having a hearty-late-night breakfast.  It also shows their close-knit relationship while at the same shows Pitt's annoyance with Seagram.  Sandecker tells Pitt that he really needs him on this one and asks him if he would investigate Jake Hobart at the National Archive.
  • National Archive-This scene should have stayed in the final print.  It depicts Pitt researching the Jason Hobart files.
  • Gene And Dana On The Boat Deck-A more extended version of the wormie on the hookie scene.  Originally this scene should have taken place along the Virginian Shoreline instead in the movie where their off the river shore.
  • The Hobart File-A slightly different version is seen here compared to what we saw on the screen.
  • Potomac Yacht Basin-A scene that follows right after the yacht scene.  This would have set up the scene on the Titanic after they discover there is no byzanium and why Sandecker said what he said about a "Byzanium Bomb".
  • Pitt And Dana-A more extended version of their encounter.
  • The Soviet Embassy-Another scene (supposed to take place after Pitt and Dana's encounter in front of Sandecker's office building) with Prevlov and Marganin looking at photographs of the discovered mine on Novaya Zemlya.
  • Sandecker's Office-This is the entire scene that takes place with Seagram and Pitt.  The whole scene should have stayed intact.  What takes place that was eventually cut, shows again how tense Pitt and Seagram's relationship is and that it isn't going to get any better.  It also explains why Pitt wants to raise the Titanic.  He also explains how things don't turn out as they should to Seagram which in fact, is a constant hang-up in the film.
  • Norfolk Naval Base Submersible Hanger-This scene introduces Vinnie and Pitt's relationship and at the same time Pitt explains to Vinnie that it is another project for NUMA.  NUMA is never mentioned in the film.  The only times we even see the word NUMA is on one of the submersibles as it descends to the ocean floor and when the doomed Deep Quest is finally on the surface after the Titanic is raised.  This part of the scene was cut from the film right where Captain Joe Burke exclaims Pitt's name.
  • Cornwall, England-There really isn't any changes up to the end of the scene.  But enough to have it on this page.
  • Deep Quest-This scene would have been pretty funny.  Most of this scene depicts from the novel at the beginning of Chapter 23.  The first chapter in Section 3-The Black Abyss.
  • Soviet Embassy Communications Room- In this scene Prevlov and Marganin are trying to piece all of the information that they have about the Sicilian Project.
  • Pentagon Communications Center-This scene depicts Seagram arguing over the radio with Pitt, who is in the North Atlantic, on board the Modoc (renamed the Denver in the film), searching for the Titanic, over its exact location.
  • Lafayette Park, Washington D.C.-This scene depicts a meeting between Sandecker and Nicholson.  Nicholson is trying to convince Sandecker to leak some of the specifics of the Sicilian Project to the KGB in order to help gain leverage inside the Soviet Union.
  • The Starfish's Demise-This scene is the final demise of the submersible Starfish.  A more extended version.
  • The Starfish Aftermath-This scene takes place in Dirk's quarters  Vinnie is also in the room with him and they are both talking about the loss of their men.
  • Discovery of the Cornet-This more extended scene shows right before they spot the cornet, some of the crew questioning the reasoning for the course change.  While doing an equipment check the Sea Cliff's lights implode due to the pressure and are about to request permission to re-surface when all of a sudden they discover something in the shadows of darkness . . .
  • Dr. Vogel's Office-A slightly different version after the restoration of the cornet.
  • Andrew's Field-This scene depicts Sandecker telling Seagram and Pitt that the Russians know about the Sicilian Project and then tells them that Nicholson wants them to leak even more information about it.
  • Soviet Embassy-An Extended version with Prevlov, Sloyuk & Polevoi about the Sicilian Project.
  • Graveyard Of The Icebergs-This scene depicts Pitt and Seagram flying back to the salvage fleet via Washington.  As they're flying to their destination, Pitt describes to Seagram as they fly over the graveyard of the icebergs.  This scene was written in both the finalized script and the second draft that I have in my collection.  But for some reason it was either never shot or cut out during editing.
  • Russian Spy-This was a more extended scene of the spy sending his messages to the Mikhail Kurkov.  It would have made sense to keep this in the film.
  • The Discovery Of The Boilers-This scene takes place right after Pitt tells control that they discovered the smokestack and right before they witness the disappearance of the ocean floor.
  • Dana And Seagram Dispute-This part was altered from the actual film.  All of their dispute over her sources of the Titanic and the byzanium story up to the point where Dana exclaims, "Because I was stupid" is all the same but afterwards something slightly different occurs than what we saw on film.
  • The Press Conference-Right before the reporter asks Sandecker the question, "After all this time won’t the Titanic be rusted away to nothing?" there are a few other questions that we never get to see...and the only speaking part that Dr. Cussler was supposed to say.
  • The Titanic Salvage Crew At Work-We never really get to see the men doing the patch-up work on the Titanic.  The only scene we got to see were the huge lamps being dropped from the surface.  In this scene, we see that and a whole lot more.
  • Searching For The Spy-Right after the second message is sent, as seen in the movie, there are a few bit pieced scenes that shows how they came to their conclusion on who the spy really is.
  • Spy Captured-This scene would have been right after Sandecker explains to Pitt about Merker's file and how it was "painted over".  It shows Merker being taken away and a brief dialogue scene between Pitt and Seagram.
  • Navy Weather Report-A very brief scene of the salvage crew working on the Titanic.  The scene then picks back up on the deck of the Modoc (renamed the Denver in the film) where Pitt is supervising the salvage operation while at the same time fighting the strong wind that has suddenly appeared.  Sandecker walks over to him and tells him of the hurricane that the Navy weather has picked up.
  • Deep Quest Dilemma-This is a rather more extensive scene than what we actually saw in the film.  And in the script there is a different version on how the Deep Quest gets stuck on the Titanic.  There is also allot more dialogue with the Deep Quest crew before and after their dilemma.
  • Seagram's First Submersible Trip-After the Titanic is finally raised, a helicopter takes off from the Modoc (renamed the Denver in the film) to retrieve the crew from the Deep Quest.  Once the crew are retrieved and brought back on board the Modoc,  Pitt and Sandecker walk over to meet Seagram.  A scene I think should have stayed.
  • Titanic At Night-As the Mikhail Kurkov looks on, the Salvage Crew are hard at work  patching up the old gal as two helicopters are shuttling back and forth between the salvage fleet and the Titanic.  As the crew are hard at work, we see Pitt heading towards the fantail with a small package tucked underneath his arm. I think that they changed it to a day scene because it might have been to complex and more expensive for them to light up the set.
  • Jammed Hatchway/Newfoundland Weather Reports-The crew are having trouble with getting to the cargo hold.  This scene is in the film but there is an extension in the scene where we see Sandecker coming towards Pitt to tell him about what Newfoundland weather has told them about the coming storm.
  • Prevlov's Mission-This scene takes place, once again, at the Soviet Embassy in Washington, D.C.  Prevlov, Marganin and Antonov are seen watching the television news as they report that the Titanic has finally been risen.  And since that has happened, Prevlov puts his plan into action.
  • Where Are The Tugs?-As the storm intensifies, we see Pitt, Sandecker and Seagram, on the decks of the Titanic, pondering where the Navy Salvage Tugs are.
  • Prevlov A Traitor?-A scene that came straight from the novel.  Marganin is seen here in Antonov's office showing him a report that shows Prevlov is a traitor.
  • Prevlov Arrives-As Prevlov get off the helicopter, after it lands on the Mikhail Kurkov, there is a brief dialogue between Prevlov and the Captain of the Mikhail Kurkov, Captain Parotkin that is never seen in the film.
  • The Navy Salvage Tugs Arrive-A short conversation between Pitt, Sandecker and Captain Butera, one of the Navy salvage tugs.
  • The False Distress Signal-This brief scene shows Captain Prevlov and Captain Parotkin, on the Mikhail Kurkov bridge, observing the Salvage Fleet leaving the Titanic to avoid the storm.  They notice that the gun ship, the McNaughton (renamed the Carpenter in the film).  That is when Prevlov orders Parotkin to send the false distress signal.
  • Deceived-We first see the salvage & tug crews onboard the Titanic battling the winds to get the cable connection done before the storm hits.  While inside the radio room of the McNaughton,  (renamed the Carpenterin the film) we see the radio man receiving the phony distress signal.
  • Message To Titanic-As Prevlov views into his binoculars and sees the McNaughton (renamed the Carpenterin the film) he than orders the radio man to send the Titanic a message.
  • Prevlov Reminds Parotkin Of Plan B-Right before Prevlov boards the helicopter to the Titanic, Prevlov reminds Parotkin if all else fails what he is ordered to do.
  • Prevlov's Titanic Encounter-Slightly altered during filming and a few lines that we never see in the film and what happens to Prevlov after he leaves the Titanic.
  • The Storm Hits The Titanic-The storm is now on the Titanic.  We see what the storm is doing to the ships hull and the aftermath that it leaves as it finally dissipates.
  • A Drunk Seagram-After the storm, Pitt and Seagram are seen walking aft ward talking.  Seagram is apparently drunk as we see him holding a bottle of champagne in one hand and a Styrofoam cup in the other.  This scene was definitely filmed because in the publicity stills that were released to the public, one of them shows David Selby holding a bottle of champagne and a styrofoam cup.  This scene also took place at night.
  • The Maiden Voyage Completed/The Reunion-We finally see the Titanic arriving at New York Harbor.  This scene comes  straight out of the novel but instead the film shows a super-imposed Titanic at the Bi-centennial filmed back in 1976.  After the ship is docked Pitt sees Dana once more and a very special re-union.  This scene was seen in the theatrical release but somehow lost it's way in the video release.  Again, in the publicity stills that came out, there is one depicting Dirk Pitt (Richard Jordan) and Dana Archibold (Anne Archer) at the bottom of the gangway.
  • Unhappy Officers-A very brief scene that depicts Busby, Kemper and Nicholson leaving the Titanic empty handed after they found out that the byzanium cargo is nothing but common road gravel which explains why  the Potomac Yacht Scene was also cut.  This scene takes place after the cargo hold scene and right before Sandecker tells Gene about the Byzanium Bomb.  Again, this scene was supposed to take place at night.
  • Seaman's Bar Near The Dock-Soon after Sandecker shocks Gene about the possibilities of a Byzanium Bomb, this scene was supposed to take place at a bar near the dock.  This is where Seagram just goes ballistic about the reasons for his involvement with the Sicilian Project and when Pitt explains to Seagram about the postcard.  But instead it was filmed onboard the ship right after Sandecker walks off the gang plank.
  • Dulles Terminal/Southby, England-Sandecker walks Pitt and Seagram to the British Airways boarding area as they are getting ready to fly to Southby, England.  Plus there is a different ending than what we saw from the film about the final resting place of the byzanium.  Both, in my opinion, were lousy.  They should have followed the novel's ending instead.
