Stage 10 Boat
deck mud, fitting the mast rigging, the ships railings, deck benches (part
1), sneak preview of RTT ocean floor & coming in early 2003
*Please
Note*
Always keep your model instruction booklet to hand at all times for part
numbers & reference.
*WARNING!*
If your
child would like to build this model, please read the instructions below
as there are many times that sharp tools will be used.
Hello fellow
RTT fans and model makers. During Stage 10, we will be fitting the ships
railings and starting the deck benches. To be fair on you all, I have
decided to install the benches over two stages, with Stage 10 being the
stern area. This is due to the length of time needed to fit the railings.
Also this time round, I will show you a "sneak" preview of the ocean floor
that my RTT model is to fitted on. So here we go with Stage 10.
Happy sailing guys.
Finishing The Boat deck Mud
With all your upper deck
structures fitted along with the lifeboat davits, we can proceed with
finishing off the boat deck mud. As before, coat the exposed deck with
enamel glue and sprinkle a light coat of "sceanic chippings " over the
areas. As the deck is large, you may need to do this in sections.
Attaching The Rigging
To The Forward Bow Mast
Below is a plan showing the
position of the rigging for the forward mast. As you will notice, there
are a few strands of rigging that has wrapped it self around the mast.
This is some of the rigging that has "snapped" from the deck and flicked
back. From the tip of the bow, there are 2 lengths of rigging. Attach
"both" lengths to the mast as shown, and remove from the mast only, the
upper rigging, snaking it around the other thread as you go. I found that
by putting glue onto your finger tips and running it down the thread, it
attaches them together better. Repeat the process with the rigging at the
rear of the mast (going towards the bridge area), leaving ONLY one of each Portside and Starboard
threads.

Attaching
The Stern Mast Rigging
Attaching the stern mast
rigging is the same as the bow mast rigging. You will see on the plan
below the same "snaking" of rigging along with a - - - - - - line.
This indicates the length of rigging that has snapped from the Poopdeck
and wrapped itself around the mast. Again, as shown on the bow mast,
attach ONLY one of the rigging sections indicated as Portside and
Starboard.

Fitting The Ships
Railings
Fitting the ships railings are
straight forward, but can be a bit time consuming. Your Titanic model
comes with its own set of "plastic" railings, while the "deluxe" kit comes
both with plastic and brass. But you can also buy the brass railings from tomsmodelworks.com. With these brass railings, it gives your ship
that feeling of realism. I have photographed the fitted railings, starting
from the stern and going to the bow. Don't worry if when fitting your
railings they bend, as during a latter stage, you will need to damage some
of the ships railings.
*Please Note* The railings for your Titanic model consist of 1, 2, 3
and 5 bar rails. Please check your model booklet for position of the "bar"
railings. You count the number of bars from the TOP of the railing. Please
DO NOT include the bottom of the rails which is to be glued to the deck.

Fitting The Deck
Benches Part 1
(stern only)
Using the plan below, we can
now fit some of the deck benches to the stern area. In Stage 11, we will
continue with the benches that are fitted to the boat deck. For the stern
area, you will need 22 benches. Follow the plan to show where the benches
are fitted, but don't worry if you cant get them level with one another,
as you will see from the illustration, all the benches are NOT level.
After all, they are attached to a ship that have been raised from 12,500
ft.

Sneak Preview Below is a sneak preview of
my RTT model "sea floor". It shows the remains of the broken 2nd funnel
lying on its side. But somewhere, not to far away, lies Titanic!. The
ocean floor base is indeed large, measuring just over 4ft x 1ft in size. I
have used the sceanic chippings for the sediment, scattered over a rolling
plain. The funnel sits on a raised section of seabed, while Titanic will
sit forward and angled at the bows portside at 15%, with her stern
slightly raised, just as she is seen in the movie. Coming In January
2003
At last, your "Raise The
Titanic!" model will receive its colors and painting effects. There will
be one more update this year with Stage 11 being posted in early December,
then its a short break for Christmas.
See you all next time.
