Items You Need
The "Raise The Titanic!" - Bring The Model Home replica movie model is
based on the now famous Titanic kit in the world, the huge 1,350th scale
(30 inch) kit produced by MiniCraft. This superb kit is the largest and
most detailed Titanic kit currently on the market. The kit can be
obtained from any large model shop. The kit is available in 2 formats,
original standard kit RRP £49.95 / $76.00, or the deluxe "museum
quality" with brass railings RRP £59.95 / $91.00. People have asked me
about the difference between the two kits, not that much is the answer
apart from the "Museum Quality" comes with photo etched railings for
extra detail.
For some years, model makers have been able to buy brass photo etched
detail sets for this kit. The phrase "brass photo etched" means that
small details can be reproduced from sheet brass. Many of the parts in
the original formed kit are a little on the "over scaled side" such as
the railings. But with the help of
www.tomsmodelworks.com, we can purchase the
correct items for our movie
replica. Take a look at his site for the huge array of parts that can be
purchased for your kit. Many brass items will need to be used such as
railings, compass tower legs, skylights and cargo crane booms, but these
items do not have to be added if you don't want to, they are for detail,
but its the detail that makes the finished model stand out.

To work on your model, you will need many tools and a lot of patience,
but remember, you don't have to be a professional model maker to build
this fantastic kit. Every 14 days, I will show you a step by step guide
along with photographs and illustrations to making the movie replica,
its so easy. Here is a basic list of items that you will need to
complete your model. All the tools are not pictured, only the main
items, but you will be notified with plenty of time as the construction
of the kit progresses.
You Will Need
-
1 x Air Brush
System
-
Air Supply for
the air brush system

Long nose pliers

Paints (enamel
or acrylic - these depend on what you are more happy to use - I
will update you on colors during construction)

Over the up and coming weeks, I will inform you on
the rest of the items needed that are easy to obtain. The replica model
features many scratch built parts that are not seen on the
original Titanic from 1912. These were incorporated into the 1980 movie
model, a good way of distinguishing the ships apart and also to tie into
the onboard scenes that were filmed aboard a derelict liner in Greece.
I will see you all soon for the start of "Raise The
Titanic!" - Bring The Model Home and when your friends ask what have you
been doing over the weekend, just think of their expression when you say
- "Not much, just raising the Titanic!" Its all coming together now! Catch you all
later.
