"Raise The Titanic!"
Bring The Model Home "What a lovely thing she was. Standing as high in the water as one of your skyscrapers. Longer than two rugby fields, and furnishings to match the finest mansions in England. She was one of a kind, no question about it, and God himself couldn't sink her!. Then in two hours she was gone, and fifteen hundred souls with her" (Alec Guinness from the 1980 movie "Raise The Titanic!")
At the end of Spring 2002, and after watching the movie "Raise The
Titanic"!, I decided to try and search on the internet for any pictures
of the 55ft movie model of the historic liner Titanic. I was shocked to
see how badly deteriorated the movie model had become, 22 years of
weather taking their toll. To me, the original wreck appeared to be in
better condition. Over the years, many attempts have been made to
purchase the huge model before it collapses into a pile of rubble, but I
thought to myself, "Hey, the movie is becoming a classic so why not
build another replica of the Titanic as she appears in the film?" I first
built a "Raise The Titanic!" replica model back in 1996, with the second
built for my Titanic Fair in 2001. Both models attracted a huge amount
of interest as people are more familiar with models of the Titanic as
she appeared at the time of her tragic sinking in 1912. I have a
collection of rare photographs that were taken off the set of the movie
sometime in late 1979 (they can be seen for the first time here on raisethetitanic.com). The photographs show the amazing detail that went
into the building of the 55ft movie model, so the pictures were used in
the construction of my prototype.
